Hero Group launches ‘Easy Bill’; chairman Brijmohan Munjal says we are focussed on motorcycles.
The Hero Group has no concrete plans “as of now” to enter the three-wheeler market. “We are currently focussed on the motorcycle business and the Hero Group has no concrete plans for the three-wheelers segmen, “ Hero Honda chairman Brijmohan Lall Munjal said on Tuesday.
Launching the groups new venture “ Easy Bill” Sunil Kant Munjal of the Hero Group said the company “as of now” did not have any definite plans to enter the three-wheeler segment, though not giving a direct denial to this effect.
Industry sources however, said if and when the Munjals get into the three-wheeler segment, it would be a solo journey for them as such king of proposition does not go well with Honda’s global business profile.
Earlier this year, there were media reports that the Munjals would be getting into manufacturing three-wheelers after 2004, when they would also be free to make scooters according to the Japanese agreement with foreign partner Honda Motor Co. of Japan.
It is noteworthy that Hero Honda Motors, the motorcycle manufacturing joint venture of the Munjals and Honda, had filed an application with the Commerce and Industry Ministry’s Project Approval Board (PAB) for a license to make two and three-wheelers.
The Hero Group an d Honda own 26 percent stake each in Hero Honda , the world’s single-largest motorcycle maker. The remaining shareholding is in the hands of financial institutions and public.
The company on Tuesday made a foray into retail segment and launched bill collection network through its wholly-owned subsidiary Easy Bill Pvt. Ltd. The group will pump in Rs 85 crore in the new business during this fiscal year.
The vision of Easy Bill is to create a brand, which offers consumer convenience in bill payments and reselling communication services using e-transaction-oriented products, said Easy Bill CEO Rahul Munjal.
It will enable consumers to pay utility bills in cash at selected retail shops acting as a one-stop collection point for all types of bill payments.
“We have tested the new concept in 150 retail stores in the national capital and the response is encouraging. So we have planned to roll out 500 stores here by October and 1500 stores in the country by the end of 2003.” The company will invest about Rs 50000 per collection point,” Munjal said at the launch of the novel bill collection services.
